Sony RDR-GX700 DVD Recorder reaffirms my faith in Sony

Pros: Amazing audio-visual quality, ease of use, good built, worth every penny of your money.
Cons: Cannot incorporate visual effects/overlay alternate soundtrack. No hard disk.
The Bottom Line:
An excellent option for archiving video tapes (including DV)
I had been waiting for over a year to buy a DVD recorder, with the sole purpose of archiving my home video tapes (Digital 8) for posterity.
When the RDR-GX7 made its debut (it disappeared quickly from the market) last year at the Sony distributor in Doha, the capital city of Qatar, a small Gulf state, it was priced around $1350 and I could not afford it.
But when the RDR-GX700 was introduced at just $630 I virtually laid a siege to the outlets till they could provide me with a unit.
Well, ideally I should have waited further for a Sony DVD recorder with hard disk, but the delay was becoming unbearable.
However, from the limited time I could dedicate to the gadget over the past two weeks (I have just burned three DVDs, one using the one-touch dubbing and the other two using progamme editing, all using the DV link cable) I should say that I am extremely happy over my decision.
I am now forced to reduce the time I spent sitting glued to the RDR-GX700 as my wife warned me yesterday that I am devoting more attention to the new machine than to her ever since I acquired it.
