Unreal stunned action gamers when it was released, thanks to its lush alien environments, scripted mission events, and over-the-top complement of weapons. It raised the bar for first-person shooters both in terms of technology and single-player gameplay, and now you can experience this futuristic action- adventure for less than 10 bucks. Unreal may be old, but you would never know it by looking at the graphics. They still stand as some of the most stunning visuals ever put in an action game, and best those of many newer games we've played. Unreal 's only real stumbling block is its uninspired gameplay, which relies too much on standard "find the key" puzzles. The game is challenging regardless--most of the enemies are smart--and we found ourselves pressing ahead just to see what sort of beautiful, strange new environment we would end up in next. We also had a lot of fun playing deathmatch games against the computer-controlled "bots," which put up a heck of a fight. The artificial intelligence

Pros: Pure eye candy with great plot.
Cons: Needs a top of the line system.
And you thought Quake 1,2 and 3 were the only true 1st person/multiplayer action games out there. Well your wrong, Unreal can be described with one word, breathtaken. From the minute I first started playing it, I was quickly drawn and immersed in it's immense 3d action world. The story takes place in a world called Nali. You were held as a prisoner until your ship crashed landed into Nali. The game starts as you awake and see that your fellow inmates have been slaughtered. You venture to find the meaning of this only to come in contact with a Skaarj warrior.
Not only does this game have a great plot, but it's visual eye candy for anyone that has an accelerator card. For those of you that don't, don't worry, the game is still great and you can do without fog :)
Now, one of the best aspects of the game is it's multiplayer games. Unreal, in my opinion, has the best multiplayer capabilities. You can go all out in multiplayer deathmatch or my personal favorite, CTF-Capture the Flag. Yes folks, capture the flag is absolutely the best with unreal. Unreal CTF has also intergrated it's own beamer (much like the grappling hook in Quake CTF). Also, there is another MOD for Unreal that I like very much. It's called infiltration (serpentine). This mod uses real-life weapons such as sub-machine guns, rocket launchers, rifles and even grenades. Definitely a game to get your blood flowing.
With all this in mind, Unreal is the type of game that will strain your computer to it's limits. It's recommended that you have a pentium 2 or greater and at LEAST 64 MB of ram. A graphics card would be great, but not necessary. I definitely recommend this game and trust me, you won't be sorry.
