Very Tiny External Hard drive
| Author's Rating: |
|
Pros: Very small, USB powered without the need for external power supplies.
Cons: USB power has been an issue for some.
The Bottom Line:
Based on my limited experience with this particular model, I would recommend it. It works fine and is large enough for me.
I bought this to suppliment my other external hard drive. It is hard to get overly excited about a hard drive but I am satisfied with it and it works well.
Transfer speed:
A little slow in my opinion. 7.81mbyte/Second according to my computer. it took about 25 minutes to back up roughly 11.9Gigs of info. Of course, that is from External Drive to External drive so that might be slowing things down. However, the 7.81M/Second is about what I have read in other reviews.
Size and Form:
Are you kidding me, this thing is tiny. You can easily hold this in the palm of your hand. It is very thin also. Very sleek looking.
USB power only:
Well, I read again and again in reviews that USB powered hard drives could have issues. Makes sense to me as the USB ports have only so much power. Especially with some laptops. However, this seem to work fine for my desktop computer. I am using an HP s3020n Slimline and having no issues.
Cost per Gig:
You know, I just don't rate this as that bad. There are cheaper external hard drives for sure, but since this thing is so tiny, I think it is well worth the price.
Reliability and Warranty:
I have been told time and time again that Western Digital is the best you can buy by computer geeks. Since starting to use WD harddrives I haven't had any crashes. I have had numerous crashes and reformates and rescues with other drives.
The External HDD comes with a 3 year warranty.
However, I just got it so I can't give personal advice on the reliability of this HDD. If this hard drive developes issues, I will be sure to come back and update this review.
Ease of Software install:
Couldn't be easier. The software comes preloaded on the drive and you just click on the WD executable and it automatically installs and backs up the software. No disks to deal with and maybe saves some plastic.
Price paid:
99.00 at Walmart. I got it there because the return policy is better and a lot of other retailers are really starting to become stingy about returns. It was about 10 dollars cheaper elsewhere.
