The adventure begins when Princess Peach is celebrating her birthday with her friends Mario Luigi Blue Toad and Yellow Toad in her castle when an enormous cake is sent in. Bowser's children Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings jump out and throw the cake on to Princess Peach trapping her inside! They then load the cake on Bowser's airship and take off leaving Mario Luigi and the two Toads giving chase... but in vain. You and your friends can play as Mario Luigi Blue Toad and Yellow Toad and must now travel through the vast nine worlds and the eighty eight levels within them in order to reach Bowser and rescue the Princess. Good luck! Explore the world on your own or with up to three others with this simultaneous multiplayer adventure incorporating both co-operative and competitive play; think making your Yoshi swallow an enemy or maybe even another player. With the use of the Wii Remote controller players can choose to either save each other from their doom or send them right to it with the new ability to pick each other up. The controller can also be used to tilt sea-saws and other objects to aid their character or sabotage another player. Alongside this innovative use of the Wii controller there are also brand spanking new in-game additions for Mario and his friends to use. This includes the Propeller Mushrooms which allow players to fly the Ice Flower that give players the ability to freeze their enemies with snowballs and the Penguin Suit which gives you the Ice Flowers ability along with being able to slide on ground water and ice with finesse. All of these additional abilities and features aid in making getting to the end of each level just that much more fun! In order to judge who came out on top players are ranked on their overall score the coins they've collected and the enemies they have defeated. Within each level there are three Star Coins that can be found which can be spent on unlocking hint movies that show certain secret areas and items within the Mario world. Should all the Star Coins be collected in a world a level in the top secret World 9 will be unlocked but World 9 itself is unavailable until the main game itself has been completed. Developers at Nintendo have dreamed of creating a simultaneous multiplayer Super Mario Bros. game for decades. The Wii console finally makes that dream come true for everyone holiday season 2009. Now players can navigate the side-scrolling worlds alone as before or invite up to three others to join them at the same time on the same level at any point in the game for competitive and cooperative multiplayer fun. With the multiplayer mode the newest installment of the most popular video game franchise is designed to bring yet another type of family entertainment into living rooms and engage groups of friends in fast-paced Super Mario Bros. fun. New Super Mario Bros. Wii offers a combination of cooperation and competition. Players can pick each other up to save them from danger or toss them into it. Mario Luigi and two Toads are all playable characters while many others from the Mushroom Kingdom make appearances throughout the game. Players can even ride different Yoshi characters and use their tongues to swallow enemies - or their fellow players. In some areas players use the motion abilities of the Wii Remote controller. The first player to reach a seesaw might make it tilt to help his or her character reach a higher platform - and then tilt it incorrectly just to mess with other players. New items include the propeller suit which will shoot players high into the sky with just a shake of the Wii Remote and Mario's new ability to transform into Penguin Mario. At the end of each stage during the simultaneous multiplayer mode players are ranked based on their score the coins collected and the number of enemies defeated.
