When you first set eyes upon a Game Boy Advance it's almost certain that the game everyone will use to show off the console's abilities will be GT Advance. The idea of Gran Turismo on a portable console may seem ridiculous, but that's exactly what GT Advance is. In terms of graphics, realism, and number of cars, it's as close as you're likely to get to the PlayStation classic while sitting on a bus. GT Advance lets you drive up to 48 different cars, all of which are officially licensed from real-life (but exclusively Japanese) manufactures. There are four separate classes of championship mode with eight courses in each, making for a mighty impressive 32 tracks in total. Of course, as the almost entirely rubbish GT Championship proves, all the options in the world can't save a racing game if it doesn't look or feel the part, but GT Advance does. The cars handle well and the super fast 3-D graphics are amazing. There's even a two-player mode, making this a must-have for any GBA owner who wants to see just what his or her new console can do. --David Jenkins

The Game Boy Advance's best original role-playing game is back in stunning form with Golden Sun: The Lost Age. The Japanese have their own peculiar take on role-playing games (RPGs), which adheres to a fairly strict series of features and clichés: young village outcast with mysterious powers, randomly occurring turn-based battles, lots of made-up words with not enough vowels in them. Golden Sun has got them all, and yet it's still incredible fun. The Lost Age is less a sequel and more a second chapter to the first game, picking up right where it left off as Isaac and his buddies try to save the world after their failed attempt to stop the Venus lighthouse from being lit. You don't by any means need to have played the first game to enjoy or understand this one, but if you have, you can upload your team from before and carry on exactly where you left off. Either way there's still tons of new spells and Dijnn to find and use, the best of which create some truly stunning graphical effects when used in battle. If you hate RPGs, you'll hate Golden Sun, but if you have even the smallest interest in the genre you can't go far wrong with this ace portable title. --David Jenkins

The best-selling game of all time, Super Mario Bros. 3, makes its portable debut with all-new features! Bowser and his troublemaking kids have forced the land into complete chaos by transforming all the local kings into animals, and it`s up to Mario and Luigi to stop them. In what many consider to be the best Mario game ever, players have to run, jump and stomp on enemies through eight enormous worlds, as they use new and classic power-ups. Dash past danger, swim treacherous seas and even take to the air, speeding toward a collision course with Bowser. Jump bottomless pits, stomp familiar foes and use awesome power-ups like the Warp Whistle and the Frog and Tanooki Suit, as you take the flight to Bowser and his kids. Open up new levels and game features when you scan special cards through the e-Reader attachment. Complete increasingly difficult levels, beating one of Bowser`s kids at the end of each level on your way to the final battle with Bowser. Discover multiplayer Mario madness when you link up with any of the other three Super Mario Advance games for frantic fun in the original Mario Bros. game.

Following a strong introduction sequence, it's quickly down to the action in the Game Boy Advance version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. For unlike the Game Boy Color version, the game kicks off with Harry already at Hogwarts, and with some fast learning to do. You step into Harry's shoes, initially moving from classroom to classroom learning new skills and spells, before indulging in activities such as sneaking out of your dormitory at night, fighting off trolls and having a quick game of Quidditch too. You certainly can't accuse the developers of trying to short-change the fans, as it seems they've tried to cram as much of the film into the game. Unfortunately, that's also at the root of the game's main problem. While it tries to cover all angles of the plot, it does mean that some segments of the game lack a little polish, and aren't always that enjoyable. Sure, there's some great fun to be had with the game, and the quality of the graphics means players will instantly relate it to the film. It's just that perhaps a little more development time could have paid dividends. Nonetheless, fans of both the film and books are likely to get some enjoyment out of the game, even if arguably it's inferior to the Game Boy Color version. And if you're not overwhelmed by Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, you can wager on one certainty--this isn't the last we've seen of Mr Potter on the Game Boy Advance... --Simon Brew

In a nutshell:Itâs the game football fans wait all year for and to usher in the next generation EA Sports have given FIFA its biggest revamp in years, changing not just the way it looks but the way it plays in what aims to be the ultimate marriage of realism and fun.The lowdown:Every new FIFA game gets its expected improvements in graphics and presentation but this year the success of Pro Evolution Soccer seems to have driven EA to concentrate just as much on the gameplay. As such the game features better passing, crossing and free kicks as well as greatly improved goalkeepers. Thereâs also a new "finesse" shot if you get the time and space to use it, while every kick is calculated in terms of space, composure and technique so that itâs accuracy is determined by exactly whatâs happening on the pitch and not just some random factor. Add in completely new ball physics, more than 510 teams, 27 leagues, 4,000 licensed players and all new international crowd reactions and youâve got EAâs most concerted attempt yet to make the definitive football game. Most exciting moment:As well as all the individual improvements to ball and player control many of the gameâs best strikers have their own signatures moves and free kicks, such as Ronaldinho, Frank Lampard and Roberto Carlos. This includes the ability to, quite literally, bend it like Beckham.Since you ask:As befits its global reach FIFA 07 has perhaps the most multinational soundtrack ever in video games, with everything from Argentinean rock band Bersuit Vergarabat to Spainâs The Pinker Tones and German group d.o.c.h.! (As well as Britbands such as Muse and The Young Punx.)The bottom line:FIFA gets serious in its attempt to out-football Pro Evolution Soccer.HARRISON DENT

Not until the release of the Game Boy Advance has a portable console had the raw horsepower to create a convincing 3-D racer. Unfortunately, the developers behind Top Gear GT Championship seem to be blissfully unaware of this fact, and their creation really fails to impress. Top Gear GT Championship is a simulation of the All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship, and as such contains all the official cars and drivers--which are totally unknown to anyone outside of Nippon. This is the least of the game's problems, though, because quite frankly it looks and controls like a rather sickly donkey. Although the graphics look good in static screenshots the road effect doesn't have the whizzy "mode 7" 3-D effect that titles such as Konami Krazy Racers and GT Advance use. Instead the road just sort of scrolls towards you out of the ether, very much in the style of old 80s coin-ops. There are a useful number of ways to customise your vehicle before the race and there are some reasonably impressive weather effects, but unfortunately it's not enough to save things. In short you'd be much better off getting GT Advance, which is much, much, better than this. --David Jenkins
