Impressive Compact Digital Camera

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Image Quality.
HD Movie w/zoom.
Autofocus Speed.
Streamlined&Compact.
Sharp/Clear LCD.

Cons: No HDMI out.
No Stereo Sound for Video.

The Bottom Line:
For the size and price:  Good features, nicely-built, easy-to-use, good image quality (no, not professional, but excellent for it's size) and HD movie capability.

Author's Review
I recently purchased the Panasonic ZR-1 as a 'take-everywhere' compact camera for when I can't take my Canon 50D SLR or when I'd like to record movies.  It's a beautifully finished compact camera that seems well-built and intelligently put together.  It's made in Japan.  There aren't millions of buttons and switches on it, which makes it look clean and simple - not cluttered and confusing.  The image quality is great, the zoom and auto-focus are fast (for this type of camera), the LCD is crystal clear and sharp, and the camera has plenty of features (like image stabilizationa and face recognition) but is still easy to use.  I was thrilled with how well this little camera records HD Movies.  It's image stabilization makes it less shaky when you're panning the camera and you're also able to zoom in and out while you're recording.  The built-in flash functioned admirably, not burning out subjects by over-exposing as many cameras tend to do.

It would be nice if it had an HDMI out and stereo sound (it has only mono), but at this size and price, I don't mind so much.  All in all, I'm very pleased with the Panasonic ZR-1 and I highly recommend it.
