Sony DCR-SR45 Camcorder Rocks

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Small, handheld camcorder with excellent stablilizer.  Great software and easy to use.  Many features.

Cons: Pictures do not seem quite as sharp as videos.

The Bottom Line:
A good camera.  Does not look like professional videos but doesn't look amaturish either.  Easy to use.  A good camera for the money.

Author's Review
My daughter bought my husband and I this camcorder last year for Christmas.  Since that time I am constantly shooting videos or taking pictures.  While the pictures don't seem quite as clear as pictures taken on a regular digital camera you can play with the settings and get a better quality picture.  The drawback is that camcorder does not remember some of these settings once it is turned off.  The video quality is dynamite.  Crips, clean and clear videos, no drag.  The mic is well placed so you don't hear every move your hand makes while filming.  The stabilizer in this camcorder works well.  Reduces handshake to a minimum.

The software included with the camcorder is excellent.  It keeps all your pictures and videos filed by date.  You can view files by day, month, or year.  Not as easy to use as some software but not that difficult either.  A nice feature is that it reduces red eye as it uploads the pictures.  Some you may have to go back and manually reduce red eye but the software itself does a fairly good job.

Storage is not a problem.  You have the option of using a memory stick or a memory card.  To date I have not had to use either.  The internal memory is fairly large.  With the cost of memory cards/sticks being what they are, it is not a big deal if you need to purchase more memory.

With onscreen instructions and the book, of course, it is easy to hook up to your computer and upload your pictures and video.  Plug the camcorder into your computer and the software takes over.  Just click upload and you're off.  There is nothing more for you to do till your system is done.

The camcorder comes with some awesome video editing capabilities.  You can put together a fancy slide show or a video.  You are able to "cut" scenes, etc.  Definately not just another video camera.
