When Lemmings threw themselves at our mercy on the computer screens all those years ago, it changed the industry. For some reason the idea of saving the little critters was so compelling that anyone who was anyone was staying up in the small hours of the morning to save that extra little fellow.Well the time has come once again. Not with Lemmings however, but with Sheep. That's right, those days of watching One Man and his Dog on a Sunday evening has finally come in handy.Playing one of four characters; Bo Peep, Adam Half Pint, Motley and Shep you must control the sheep around various courses to the pen at the end. Sounds pretty weird so far? Well it gets worst.Apart from the many obstacles like the sheep dip, the trampolines and the corn sharks to avoid, you have four breed of sheep to be content with, all having their very own traits. Choose from Modern Pastrol, Modern Factoral, long wool and Neo Genetics. This game shouldn't work, but like One Man and his Dog it does, and no matter how much you protested to not liking it, you found yourself screaming in outrage when it was taken off television.Sheep follows in the same strange fashion, after all where is the fun in herding sheep into a pen? But once the woolly jumpers have invaded your screen, there is no turning back. With crazy sheep, even crazier obstacles and gameplay that will have you whistling at the screen in a fit of madness, you can't but help to keep on coming back for more. --Stuart Miles

The first of the now-famous Tomb Raider games is a must-have for every gaming fan. You are Lara Croft, a tough, beautiful, sophisticated female Indiana Jones--think of a British Demi Moore in a fedora. Lara climbs walls, leaps chasms and generally defies gravity using impressive gymnastics. All of her actions are intricately modelled to produce the life-like athleticism that made Tomb Raider--and Lara Croft--famous.But Lara's got more than good looks and smooth moves to help her on her globetrotting quest for relics. Like guns. Lots of guns. Lara begins her adventures with her trademark pistols, wielded John-Woo-style: one in each hand. She eventually works her way up to Uzis and even adds a handy shotgun to her arsenal, perfect for taking down a troublesome tyrannosaurus found in some steamy Tibetan lost world. Here's the story: having made a name for herself as a finder of antiquities, Lara is hired by a mysterious woman to find an artefact believed to have come from Atlantis. Lara travels around the world, plumbing the depths of long- or best-forgotten locales. As she discovers clues to the artefact's whereabouts, she also uncovers the true motivation behind her employer's search. The intriguing plot is told through gorgeous computer-animation movie-cut scenes interspersed throughout the game's episodes. As you venture to and through various ancient tombs, a host of enemies and puzzles await you. In fact, it is the puzzles that will keep players interested even after the challenge of slaying enemies has passed. Also hidden throughout the game are a number of secret rooms and hidden treasures, unnecessary for completion of the game but adding a level of complexity and replay value. Being one of the few video game characters to grace mainstream magazine covers, Lara Croft is part of video game history. --Allen Stewart

The Star Wars saga will continue in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, a videogame developed by LucasArts, which casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny. During the period between Episodes III and IV, players hunt Jedi in the role of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice. Unleash and upgrade the Secret Apprentice's four core Force powers - Force push, grip, repulse and lightning - throughout the course of the game, and combine them for ultra-destructive, never-before-seen combos. The Secret Apprentice won't just Force push enemies into walls - he'll Force push enemies through walls. The Secret Apprentice won't just Force grip foes to throw them aside - he'll Force grip them in midair, zap them with lightning, then drop them to the ground to explode like a bomb. In addition to new adversaries created just for the game, such as fugitive Jedi and Force-sensitive Felucians, players will also confront and associate with familiar faces from the Star Wars films, including Darth Vader. Visit locations such as Episode III's Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk and the floral Felucia, the junk planet Raxus Prime, plus an Imperial TIE fighter construction facility. Decisions made by players throughout the game will determine the path of the story, including multiple endings that will rock Star Wars continuity as they know it. The Force Unleashed is LucasArts' first internally developed title for next-generation consoles, and it

If you've watched Tiger Woods's awe-inspiring performances on the fairway and wondered what it might be like to walk in his shoes, here's your chance. CyberTiger balances all of the realistic graphic detail of a golf simulation with arcade-like gameplay that'll have any virtual golfer sinking Tiger's impossible shots before long. Golfers can go on tour or play a match or tournament game on several PGA courses, as well as fantasy courses with wild obstacles. As golfers' skills progress, hidden characters, special abilities, and trick shots unlock, offering new challenges. A one-button swing feature offers rookies an easy way to nail 200-yard shots and soft 20-inch putts from the very first tee. Tiger Woods' signature smooth swings and idiosyncrasies were motion-captured for the game, providing realistic animations. A variety of PGA pros--male and female--are available, as well as a create-a-golfer feature that lets players build a virtual rival for Tiger Woods. --Eric Twelker

Asteroids, like other classic games from the original video arcade era, is still fondly remembered by retro gamers--and for good reason. This game reminds many gamers of an age when gameplay was more important than graphics. The first few levels play just like the original Asteroids game. Your ship starts in the middle of the screen, spins, and blasts asteroids. You can thrust about and pick up some nifty power-ups, but the game doesn't really heat up until later stages. For example, the second stage introduces dangerous black holes that you must avoid. Strangely enough, the final levels play somewhat like another classic game, Missile Command. There are lots of hidden goodies in this game, from new ships to an embedded version of the original wire-frame Asteroids. Fortunately, this version offers more than a simple facelift to the ageing arcade game. Asteroids is simple enough to pick up and play for a few minutes, yet addictive enough to keep you occupied for hours. Retro arcade fans should put this one on their shortlist. --T. Byrl Baker

Driver Platinum combines Grand Theft Auto-style missions with Colin McRae Rally driving. You are Tanner, an undercover "cop" posing as a getaway driver with the aim of infiltrating and busting open a national crime ring. Passing the driving test to open up the game is the first "challenge", and it can be a challenge. You have a limited time to complete a number of driving manoeuvres in your ridiculously powerful car. But speed is what Driver is all about and these skills do make it easier--the reverse 180 degrees is a fine way to shake off the law as they pursue you all over the streets of New York, Miami, LA or San Francisco. Once into the game, you do various driving jobs where speed and knowing the streets are a definite bonus. Timing is also crucial--arrive too early or with a tail, and you blow the mission, arrive too late and your target will be gone. Outside the storyline, Driver also contains smaller basic driving games, such as Trailblazer and Pursuit modes, allowing you to flex your car's muscle without jeopardising anything, except the safety of your fellow road users. Control of the car does border on the unrealistic side, but this enables you to throw your car around and adds to the addictiveness of the game--driving the car is great fun in itself. The graphics are shockingly good for the PlayStation and the animated clips add to the 70s ambience. Overall, Driver is truly worthy of the accolades it has received and if you don't own it, you probably aren't getting the best out of your PlayStation. --Chris Hall

Five years ago, the 3-D platform genre was exciting, as titles like Crash Bandicoot and Mario 64 ruled the console roost. Since then, we have seen the 3-D platform genre fill up with a few copycats and some outright stinkers. However, there have been a few classics in the intervening years, such as Banjo-Tooie. Now Rayman 2: Revolution can join the club. Like past instalments, Rayman 2: Revolution borrows gameplay elements from a variety of different sources, but they are sources worth borrowing from. Several elements from Rayman 2: The Great Escape have been pilfered, including a similar story line. Revolution has a good combination of beautiful graphics, great controls, and enhanced gameplay. This will astound hard core gamers and those new to the hobby. There is enough puzzle solving, lever pulling, item collecting and platform jumping action to keep even the most ardent platform enthusiast busy for quite some time. Admiral Razorbeard and his army of robots have enslaved the planet, and it's your job in Revolution to help Rayman search for pieces of the Primordial Core and summon Polokus to get rid of the robotic pirates. The levels are the same as in The Great Escape, but, due to the power of the PS2 and the detail put into reworking the levels for the game, they look spectacular. Ubi Soft has mixed old-school gameplay with graphical power, and mixed together those ingredients make this game a must-play for gamers of all ages. Despite the borrowed elements from The Great Escape, Revolution for the PS2 offers up plenty of new thrills that will make the hearts of platform gamers skip a beat, just like the first time they played Mario 64 or Crash Bandicoot. It looks like this time, Rayman will finally get the respect he deserves. --Todd Mowatt

While Star Trek Invasion never quite reaches the lofty heights of the Colony Wars games, it's still worth a look even if you're not a green-blooded trekkie. Set in the timeline of the Next Generation TV and film series, Invasion has you cast in the role of a fighter pilot destined for a big part in the upcoming war against the Earth-bound Borg. The Borg is not the only Trek race to show up in here; the Cardassians, Klingons, and Bajorans are all along, too. Whilst actors Michael Dorn as Worf and Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard contribute good voice acting to an all-around solid production. The visuals in Invasion are uniformly sharp and show an attention to detail that almost makes the old PlayStation beg for mercy. The planets, the ships, the explosions (especially the explosions!) are top notch. Disturbingly, the controls in Invasion can be a little to sensitve at times and are suited to perhaps better space jokeys amongst us. Perhaps because it is set in the more politically correct universe of Star Trek, Invasion does lack Colony Wars' level of intense, gritty combat and its story isn't nearly as engaging. Yet, for a laser-blast filled journey into the final frontier, it's still a fun ride.--Mark Brooks

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver tells the story of Raziel, one of the undead lieutenants of the vampire lord Kain. Jealous of Raziel's newly evolved wings, Kain tears them apart and casts his former champion into the netherworld. But a powerful entity that dwells in the netherworld has restored Raziel to a semblance of life and has set him on a path of vengeance. After this tantalising movie introduction, you take control of Raziel in the spectral realm, where your new existence is explained to you. From there you enter the physical plane, ready to begin your quest for power and revenge.Raziel's combat moves are extremely brutal, as you would expect from a vampire who has returned from the dead. When he finds a spear, Raziel gleefully stabs and slashes before he impales his foe, lifts it off the ground and feasts on its soul. Doing so enhances Raziel's power, and devouring the souls of the rest of Kain's lieutenants is the only way to get the special abilities--scaling walls, phasing through gates, etc.--needed to reach Kain himself. While fun for adults, parents should take note: this game is definitely not suitable for kids. --John Cocking

An abandoned research complex on a remote jungle island, a team of special forces operatives, a horde of vicious velociraptors, and one big, mean Tyrannosaurus Rex constitute the setting and cast of Dino Crisis, the latest masterpiece from the makers of Resident Evil. You play as Regina, a member of a four-person team sent to retrieve an expatriate scientist. Your radio man became a midnight snack for the T.Rex, so it's up to you and your two remaining teammates to explore a dino-infested research station, rescue the scientist, call for a helicopter retrieval, and escape with your lives. Along the way you'll uncover the grizzly remains of those who got in the dinosaurs' way, and you'll unravel the mystery of how a top-secret energy research project turned into a Jurassic nightmare. And about those dinosaurs: they're all over the island. One instant you'll be walking along a second-story balcony, admiring the view, the next instant you'll be dodging a T.Rex as it smashes its huge maw through the concrete walls. Velociraptors chase you down blood-spattered corridors, flying reptiles circle the outdoor areas, and your only weapons are your pistol, whatever else you can salvage, a dwindling supply of ammunition, and your wits. Packed with clever puzzles and heart-pounding surprises, all superbly presented with realistic graphics and horror-movie camera angles, Dino Crisis is a triumph of survival-horror gaming. Yet be warned, this is a direct PlayStation conversion and so looks and feels like PlayStation game rather than your average PC title.--Mike Fehlauer
