Traction Engines Vol. 1:This two-day sponsored steam engine road run was arranged by the friends of Bardwell Mill and the East Anglian Traction Engine Club. Its purpose was to raise money to repair the Bardwell Mill. On the first day we covered about half of the twenty-five mile run filming the engines rolling around the countryside. There are interviews with some of the owners of these fascinating engines. Engines include Ruston and Hornby Foden Wagon Ransomes Sentinel Wagon and many more...!Traction Engines Vol. 2:In this video programme we follow the second day of the Millers Trail looking at the latter part of this two-day sponsored steam engine road run. This programme had managed to capture the atmosphere of these fascinating engines with in-depth interviews talking about the real life experiences of running and maintaining Traction Engines.Engines include Aveling and Ported Fowler Fowell and MacLaren. The World of Heavy Haulage:Today we have a twenty-four hour haulage system in this country carrying everything we need to keep our businesses and households functioning - without it our society would grind to a halt within a few days. On our farms horses and oxen have been replaced firstly by traction engines then tractors reducing the work force needed to feed the country from around fifty-percent to about five.In this documentary while we look at a range of traction engines steam buses vans and lorries plus heavy trucks we will be examining the history of heavy haulage right back to 4000BC when wheels were first used to make cars.Hero Leonardo da Vinci Della Porta Papin Savery Necomen Cugnot Trevithick and Thornycroft all made their contribution to the development of modern day agriculture equipment and transport. For many their only reward for their efforts was to die penniless.
