OM46301 - RM164 (164CLT) - Route 131 Walton on Thames NEW TOOL (First Issue) RM 164, part of the initial production run of 850 vehicles, entered service in February 1960 at Walthamstow (WW) garage. In May 1962, following the closure of trolleybus route 604, RM 164 was used on route 131 from Kingston to Wimbledon. In the early years of operation the Routemaster was constantly subject to modifications in the quest for perfection. RM 164 has many original features, such as the London Transport roundel on the bonnet (later replaced by a triangular badge incorporated in the grille), brake ventilation grilles beneath the headlamps, full depth air intake beneath the destination and an offside route number box on the staircase panel. All of these features subsequently were altered or discontinued. After withdrawal from London Transport service in 1989, RM 164 migrated north to the East Midlands, owned by Stagecoach, and was re-registered NSG 686A. It was later transferred within the group for further service in Perth with Bluebird Buses.

VA11200 - A40 Farina - 1959 Monte Carlo Rally - Pat Moss - NEW TOOL Pat Moss and Ann Wisdom gave the A40 its international rallying debut on the 1959 Monte Carlo Rally and Pat christened the car, XOE 778, Zoe. Their only major problem was when the Weber carburettors manifold fractured near Chalons, Ann got out to look, and initially had some difficulty convincing Pat that the carburettor had fallen off. They were able to push Zoe to a garage whose English proprietress woke her mechanic to weld the aluminium-alloy casting. The repair held and, as well as winning The Ladies Prize, the pair finished tenth overall, second in class, and won the Concours RAC Challenge Trophy.

CC13721 - Scania R Flatbed & Straw Load - G Owen & Sons - Newtown, Montgomeryshire Brothers Henry and George Owen bought the company in 1958 from an existing coal merchant who supplied coal to domestic customers in and around the Mid-Wales area. Due to illness, Henry retired in 1968 and George continued to manage until 1970 when his two sons Murray and Robert joined him and a year later the company became G. Owen & Sons. Following Georges retirement in 1973 Murray and Robert have developed the company to its present form where their sons Daniel and Rhys are now also heavily involved in the business. In 1976, Murray and Robert purchased pre-packing facilities for the retail market of the Coal industry and developed further when moving into general haulage in 1988. Such is the variety in loads, the vehicles can be seen on a farm in the Welsh Mountains one day, and on Oxford Street attending to major customer, Laura Ashley, the next. CV55 CWJ is the flagship of the fleet and won best Scania two years running at the all Wales truck show in 2007/08

VA06712 - Triumph Spitfire - 1964 Alpine Rally - Terry Hunter and Patrick Lier Triumph entered three Spitfires for the 1964 Alpine Rally, the cars rally debut. All were fitted with aluminium panels, Vitesse close-ratio gearboxes, hardtops, and aluminium cylinder heads. Initially they performed well, however a car driven by a Belgian tourist crashed into Jean-Jacques Thuner and John Greteners car, whilst Roy Fidler and Don Grimshaws blew its engine, leaving only Terry Hunter and Patrick Lier. They had an almost perfect rally, however, they were held a little too long at the Entreveux service halt and the team then slightly underestimated a section time, meaning the pair missed out on a coveted Coupe des Alpes by one minute.

OM41912 - Leyland PD3 Queen Mary British Shoe Corporation
... Read more
OM41912 - Leyland PD3 Queen Mary British Shoe Corporation One of the largest users of Queen Marys as staff buses was the British Shoe Corporation in Leicester. In 1966 the then foreman, an ex Southdown employee, recommended that the company purchase excellently maintained buses which had served his previous employer. Leyland Titan PD2/12 KUF 715 became the companys first staff bus. From 1972 a start was made to replace the original fleet with Queen Marys. The first to arrive were 852, 853, 854 and 857. By the mid 70s an all Mary fleet was operated and towards the end of the decade a newer fleet of 15 Queen Marys replaced the original buses.
