AA38103 - Sopwith Camel B6299 - No 10 Naval Sqn, RNAS, Flt Lt N M MacGregor, Teteghem, Late 1917 10 Naval Sqn was formed in Feb 1917 and was initially equipped with Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutters. They then converted to Sopwith Triplanes and by the time the Camels arrived later in 1917, Naval 10s famous Triplane Black Flight had already scored around 50 victories and were gaining a fearsome reputation within the German Air Service. Norman Miers MacGregor was one of 29 Aces to fly with Naval 10. He moved to the Sqn as a flight commander from 6 Naval Sqn late in 1917. He finished the war with 7 (possibly 8) kills to his name with the last two being gained in Camel B6299. As a B Flight aircraft it was identified by the large white B on the fuselage sides and the distinctive red and white striping around the cowling area and the rear decking behind the cockpit.

OM46110 - Plaxton Panther - Ulster Bus Translink, Belfast The integration of Citybus, Northern Ireland Railways and Ulster Bus began in January 1995 when the government announced comprehensive changes to the provision of public transport. Among the many measures to be introduced was the new policy of co-ordination between the bus companies, Citybus (now Metro) and Ulster Bus, and the railway company, NI Railways. One aim was to improve services for the public by offering co-ordinated timetables. The organisation is now one of Northern Irelands largest employers with approximately 4,000 employees. Over 80 million passenger journeys are made on Translink services each year. Ulster Bus currently has 20 main passenger facilities across Northern Ireland employing 1,250 drivers and operating approximately 1,100 buses.

VA11201 - Austin A40 Farina - Birmingham Police - NEW TOOL Birmingham Police used a large number of A40s during the late fifties and early sixties, mainly as local beat Panda Cars or unmarked transportation vehicles. Superseded in some roles by the 1100 range, with which it shared its engine, the A40 continued to be used in Mk2 form because of its capacious storage and the ease with which equipment, carried by some branches of the force, could be reached through the Countrymans opening rear window. Although styled in Italy the A40 was engineered and produced at Austins headquarters at Longbridge, on the outskirts of Birmingham, meaning the force was supporting their local manufacturer.

AA38402 - Bristol Blenheim - 1F Night Fighter, 29 Sqn, RAF Digby, June 1940 Although only entering RAF service in 1937 by the outbreak of WW2 very few Blenheim 1s remained in service with UK-based bomber squadrons, most having been superseded in the bomber role by the much improved MkIV. However the Mk1 continued in service as conversion and crew trainers with OTUs. However of far more significance were around 200 Mk1s that were converted to night fighters carrying the brand new AI (airborne Interception) radar. Similar in overall outline to the standard Mk1 bomber, the night fighter carried an additional under-fuselage pack housing four forward firing 0.303 machine guns. It was such equipped Mk1Fs that scored the first successful AI interception of enemy aircraft on the night of 2-3 July 1940. Blenheim Mk1F, L1327, based at RAF Digby in June 1940, looks remarkably similar to a standard Blenheim bomber apart from the ventral gun pack. It wasnt until December 1940 that the night fighters began to receive an overall black paint finish.

AA32017 - Hurricane 1B - W9220, 880 NAS , Sub Lt RJ Cork - Arbroath & St Merryn, 1941 The Royal Navy acquired Hurricanes to help in the Battle of the Atlantic which, in early 1940, had a steep rise in shipping losses far from shore, where land-based aircraft could not provide air cover for Allied convoys. This gave rise to the Hurricat, a converted Hurricane carried by CAM-ships. Hurricanes converted for such a role needed only the addition of catapult spools, and 50 Hurricane Mk I land-planes were so modified and designated Sea Hurricane Mk IA. The first of the Hurricanes and Sea Hurricanes to see service with the Fleet Air Arm arrived in February 1941 and were operating with front line unit 880 Squadron from 15 March 1941. Battle of Britain ace Dickie Cork first flew W9220 on 7 April 1941 and continued to do so for several months. The Sea Hurricane Mk I were followed by about 300 Mk Is converted to Sea Hurricane Mk IB configuration, these having catapult spools plus a V-frame arrester hook: in addition 25 Mk IIA were modified as Sea Hurricane IB or Hooked Hurricane II fighters.

AA38204 - C-47 Dakota - ZA974 Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, based at RAF Coningsby Issued to the BBMF in March 1993, the Dakota is a year-round workhorse for the BBMF being used in a variety of roles, including general support tasks, such as transporting ground crew and equipment to display venues or other operating airfields. Importantly, as there are no other multi-engine tailwheel-configured aircraft in RAF service outside the BBMF, she is used for training aircrew for the BBMF multi-engine aircraft and in keeping the pilots of the Lancaster current on a multi-engine tailwheel aircraft during the winter months when the bomber is out of action. Increasingly, though, the Dakota has become a display aircraft in her right and now appears regularly on the airshow circuit either on her own or as part of a BBMF 3-ship formation, in company with a pair of fighters. Dakota ZA947 currently wears the livery of 267 Pegasus Squadron, which flew in the Transport, Trooping and Re-supply roles in the Middle East and the Mediterranean Theatres during 1943/44. The squadron employed various colour schemes on its Dakotas but always displayed its Pegasus emblem prominently on the aircrafts nose.

AA38802 - Dornier Do215 B-5 Kauz, Stab II/NJG 2, Leeuwarden, Summer 1945 - NEW TOOL The Do215 began life as a redesignated version of the Do17 intended for export. The Swedish Government ordered 18 DO215A-1 bombers but before any were delivered an embargo was placed on their export and they were instead modified for use by the Luftwaffe as reconnaissance aircraft. The Do215 retained the pencil like fuselage of the Do17, nicknamed The Flying Pencil but featured 2 in-line Daimler Benz engines giving a marked improvement in performance. The Dornier Do215 B-5 Kauz III was a dedicated night fighter featuring IR searchlight in the nose, FuG 202 Lichtenstein BC radar, 4 x 7.62mm machine guns in the upper nose and 2 x 20mm MG FF cannons in the lower nose. No. 74 Sqn re-equipped with Hawker Hunter F.4s at Horsham St. Faith in March 1957. These were supplemented by F.Mk.6s in November that year, with several aircraft being painted with a fascimile of Sailor Malans signature on the nose in recognition of Adolf Sailor Malan, 74 Sqns famous Battle of Britain Ace. AA39001 - Westland Lynx - Army Air Corps - NEW TOOL The Westland Lynx was designed and built by Westland Helicopters at its factory in Yeovil. Both battlefield and naval variants were developed, which went into operational usage in 1977 and were later adopted by the armed forces of over a dozen nations, where it primarily serves in the battlefield utility, search and rescue and anti-submarine warfare roles. The initial design (then known as the Westland WG.13) was started in the mid-1960s, with the Lynx making its first flight on 21 March 1971. In 1972, a Lynx broke the world record over 15 and 25km by flying at 321.74km/h. It also set a new 100km closed circuit record shortly afterwards, flying at 318.504km/h. In 1986, a Lynx specially modified with BERP (British Experimental Rotor Programme) rotor blades, registered G-LYNX and piloted by Trevor Egginton set an absolute speed record for helicopters over a 15 and 25km course by reaching 400.87km/h. The British Army ordered 100 Lynx AH (Army Helicopter) Mk.1 for various roles, including tactical transport, armed escort, anti-tank warfare (with eight TOW missiles), reconnaissance and evacuation.

VA00320 - Vanguards VA00320 Outspan Austin A40 Van The A40 of 1947 was Austins first mass market post-war car and was a completely new design with no carryover parts. It featured a new 1200cc 40bhp OHV engine, the forerunner to the long-lived BSeries. A separate chassis enabled it to be built in a variety of body styles, and Austin certainly exploited this. As a four-door it was marketed as the Devon, whilst the two-door was called Dorset and the convertible was known as the A40 Sports. The van version modelled here, was available from 1948 and was produced alongside its pick-up cousin until the A40 commercial range was dropped in 1956 after 140,060 vans/pick-ups had been built.

VA01425 - Mini Van - J Sainsbury Maintenance Dept. The Mini van was launched five months after the saloon, in January 1960, and remained on sale until 1983. The saloons wheelbase was extended by 4 inches and the rear overhang by a further 2.5 inches, creating a load platform 55 inches long, quite impressive in a vehicle which was still only 129.55 inches in length; Issigonis design was even more beneficial on a commercial. Vehicles travel down their production line with their doors open, so Mini vans were produced with twin side-hinged rear doors allowing them to be closer together than would have been possible if they had been fitted with a tailgate.
