A French red wine with a good, solid reputation. Showing good concentration and complexity on the nose with aromas of cedar and dried fruits and a syrupy, elegant richness to the palate. Named after John Talbot, the last Governor of Bordeaux during the period of English ownership in the 15th century. The blend is traditionally two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot making up the greater proportion of the balance.

The tiny appellation of Crons borders the northern side of Sauternes and benefits from autumnal mists, which encourage the development of Botrytis. Made using the same labour-intensive methods as Sauternes, with individual grape selection from the bunches, followed by a partial vinification in French oak barrels. The result is a rich, luscious French dessert wine with a pronounced honeyed bouquet and fresh, citrus flavours.

A second wine of Chateau Lynch-Bages, but by no means second rate, from a property that produces French red wine far superior to its fifth growth status. Red and dark, plummy fruit on the aromatic nose, with a finely balanced, ripe almost minty, red-fruit and elegant hints of cedar on the palate - a hallmark of fine claret.

Nine hectares of vineyards at Chateau des Jacques in the Moulin-a-Vent region of Beaujolais, France lie on chalky-clay soils and are ideally suited to growing Chardonnay grapes that attain very good levels of ripeness. The wines are 100% barrel-fermented and aged in the same way as Louis Jadot make their great whites in the Cote DOr region in oak barrels for 10 months. A harmonious palate of fruit flavours such as pear, peach and lemon with vanilla spice and rich buttery notes acquired from the oak.

An excellent example of this rarely seen French white wine from a small family domaine located between Orange and Avignon. It actually shares some of the same terroirs as Chteau Beaucastel: namely the Chapouin and Coudoulet soil types. A blend of 35% Clairette, 35% Bourboulenc, 15% Grenache Blanc and 15% Roussanne grapes made by Dany and Christian Berthet-Rayne; who claim the trick of early harvesting of the Rousanne and Grenache Blanc gives the wine its clean fresh edge. A very full-bodied and well-balanced wine with a rich palate showing a floral and white stone fruit character. After a 5 year period of conversion the estate is now completely certified as organic by ECOCERT: the first organic vintage is 2007, although they have been cultivating their estate organically for decades without certification.

Purchased by Louis Jadot in 1996, this is one of the most prestigious properties in the Crus Beaujolais. The vineyard, comprising some 27 hectares, makes a very traditional, long-living style of French red wine, a portion of which is oak-matured. A superb element of our Beaujolais range. The 2004 vintage was Highly Recommended in Decanter Magazine in July 2007 in a review of Top 10 Summer Reds: Heres a Beaujolais worthy of respect. Of course at this price it should be - but its exceptionally impressive. Gamay has never tasted quite as interesting as it does here. Sarah Jane Evans MW.
