While the N64 Knockout Kings 2000 tilts decidedly toward realism, the GBC version is a giddily old-fashioned button masher, complete with noggins the size of beach balls. In the default Slugfest mode (not to be confused with the most recent Ken Griffey games), you have at it with one of 10 all-time champs: Muhammad Ali ,Lennox Lewis, Oscar de la Hoya,Sugar Ray Leonard, Joe Frazier,Rocky Marciano,Shane Mosley, Butterbean, Michael Grant and Floyd Mayweather Jr. The pugilists are rated for strength, stamina and speed. Leonard, de la Hoya and Mosley were motion-captured for the Pak, as was referee Mills Lane. That's Lane instructing the boxers during a bout. In Career mode, you shepherd a fictional heavy- or light-weight pugilist through a rigorous regimen of jump rope, speed bag and heavy bag before stepping into the ring. Graphics are crisp and surprisingly detailed (Love that ponytail on Lennox!). Between the 20-second rounds, you're given stats on jabs and power punches thrown and landed and knockdowns.
