Call of Duty 4 is an immersing first person shooter set in modern times with modern warfare? What does this mean for us? A storyline that is much easier to connect to than that off Call of Duty 2's story which was set in WW2. This game utilizes real weapons used in the real world today, and the authenticity shows.
While the single player portion of the game follows both a British S.A.S. soldier and an American Marine, its not nearly as disjointing as you may initially believe to switch back and forth between the story's points of view. This is because of the amazing cinematic style the game offers to the gamer. It really is amazing how the game connects you to the characters through the absolute visceral action that takes place over the course of the game. There is definitly allot of offerings made by the missions as well. One moment your a sniper crawling through the fields and the next a gunner in a helicopter helping your men cross through those very same fields. This is where the intersecting sorry lines and points of view truly shine in this game. I do have to say though that the single player game was rather short and only offered me around 7-8 hours of play straight through on normal mode. It seems the games creators tried to artificially extend the life of the game by jacking up the level of difficulty in Veteran mode and saying "We dare you to beat it". I found this annoying as it was a rather easy way to dismiss the fact that the game is quite short but overall doesn't take anything away from the experience.
I personally found the biggest draw of the game however, to be deep in the multi player. COD4 mixes some RPG elements with the multi player. I say this because as your progress through the multi player game you get points and awards for your kills which unlock new things such as weapons and grenades. Down the road this also leads to the introduction of "perks". After every few levels of growth you unlock these perks which are basically little ways to get a leg up on the competition like dropping a grenade whenever you are killed for a chance that it may blow up the attacker and avenge you. There's a good variety of maps in the game as well. Now Ive been playing this game online for months and have yet to get bored with them because there are so many. In fact I'm sure their are a few i haven't even touched because I haven't played every game type yet. Though currently there is a level cap of 60 in the game Infinity Ward has said they will soon be raising this and adding new challenges for players to complete as well as tweaking the game types to offer even more to the gamer. I'm personally going to go out on a limb and say this is one of the most addictive multi player games Ive ever played next to Halo 3.
There is only one way to put this as far as the graphics go, on the Xbox360 it looks PHOTO REALISTIC at times. I often found my self starring at the gorgeous graphics this game offers only to be painfully pulled back into reality by gunshots of my enemies that have me surrounded. If you like first-person shooters, you owe it to yourself to go out and BUY THIS GAME. I find myself sucked into the realistic world it delivers, daily and for hours at a time which isn't necessarily a good thing for my grades but trust me it's a feast for the eyes indeed.
