Pros: Compact, super battery life, pro-quality lens, very useable movie mode, focus assist lamp.
Cons: Small LCD, minimal accessories, no zoom when recording movies
Bottom Line: Despite the small display the excellent mpg movie mode and pro quality lens make this a standout camera in this class.

Pros: EVERYTHING! Sleek design, great stills, MPEGs, manual settings, button layout, LCD, Sony quality at ~$190!
Cons: Memory Sticks relatively expensive, zooming unchangeable during MPEG recording, documentation could be better organized.
Bottom Line: I'd recommend the DSC-S40 to anyone looking for an excellent digital camera with plenty of room for growth while not breaking the bank.

Pros: Fast autofocus. Sharp pictures. Great VGA movies. Semi-wide angle. Great AA battery life.
Cons: Low light photos are noisy, lack detail. Small screen font. Expensive memory sticks. Underpowered flash.
Bottom Line: Small, yet takes AA batteries! Wider than average lens! VGA movies! Great battery life! But low-light photos are unusually bad.

Pros: Small, good pictures with the right techniques
Cons: Had some problems with action shots
Bottom Line: Inexpensive, great for beginners and intermediates. Video mode was surprisingly useful, and with some standard photo tips one can capture quality shots.
