Pros: Very creative game. I want what they smoked when they thought this up.
Cons: Not enough tracks. It doesn't take very long to beat either.
The Bottom Line:
Extreme G 3 has beautifull graphics, stomach churning tracks, phat tunes, and the feeling of speed is unmatched in any other game. If you like that, buy it. Overall +8

THE STORY
Founded at the end of the 22nd century, the Extreme-G Racing League has become the fan favorite. Their are twelve racers divided into six teams. You have to choose one of them to begin your career. 'PALUS', is a Company with strong production. 'PHASE ONE', is moving up the ranks after recently graduating from lower leagues. They pride themselves on being the most prominent, exciting and controversial team on the circuit. 'TERRANOVA', are the media lovers of the league with high production values and mass media coverage. 'TALON', is owned by three well known CEO's, and are the most profitable team on the circuit. 'VIXEN', is an all girl team. No comment...........
........(dikes). And the last team 'STARCOM' gives out no information. You can't pick them from the beginning.
GAMEPLAY
Let me start off by saying I'm not going to compare this to the N64 Extreme-G racer. That's a different system, and this is obviously superior. I haven't played every race game out there, but think of extreme speed games that are so intense that you inch closer and closer to the television every second while you play, and you try not to blink, knowing you'll take a dive if you do (ex. Wipeout, Pod Racer). Well think of that and double it. Extreme-G is hella fast, breaking out to speeds topping 1g mph. Starting from the main menu, you have four choices.
(1. XG Career- Pick a team, pick a driver, and get the season started.
(2. XG Team Career- Very cool option here. You can join the same team as a buddy and watch each others backs throughout the year.
(3. Versus Game- Make your homeboy say your name with a new character or one your using in career mode.
(4. Load Data
When you begin Career Mode you must first pick your team. Then you will have the choice of two of the teams riders. Usually being male and female. Of course to progress in the league and move on, you have to place high and earn credits for better engines and weapons. Firing weapons and hitting your turbo takes up your bikes energy, so be carefull. Be sure to hit the neon strips during the race to replinish you energy. Now that your in Career Mode your given seven more options.
(1. League- Click here to do your buisness and unlock new tracks.
(2. Arcade- You can practice racing on the tracks that you've already beaten.
(3. Save Data
(4. Options- Mess with the controls and audio.
(5. Time Trial- Make some nice bling bling if you can break the current record.
(6. Exit
(7. XG Mall- come here to upgrade your bike's systems, weapons, and performance. You can also sell items you don't want. There are eleven weapons to purchase. "MINI-GUN", Three barreled and fires off 5,000 rounds per minute. "ROCKET", A blind fire missle used best in close combat. "REAR BLASTERS", No no, I'm not talking about Grandpas high fiber diet. This blasts extreme heat causing damage to bikes directly behind you. "E.M.P." Weapons-disabling pulse rifle; temporarily disrupts all weapons on your bike of target. "HEAT SEEKERS" heat guided rockets. "MICRO MINES" Short fuse mines that detonate on impact. "LEECH" energy draining missle that drain the energy from other bikes and transfer to yours. "DESTABILIZER" disables handling systems of all enemy bikes within a distance. "FLASH MORTAR" Quick flash, shortly blinding all the riders who see it. "REAR TURRET" rear facing rapid fire at 1,000 rounds minute. And finally "RAIL GUN" sends a high powered thermal blast that inflicts major damage.
You can also purchase upgrades for your bike. "SHIELD BOOST" increases your shield strength. "AMMO BANK" Increased ammunition storage capactiy. "SHIELD SCOOP" Improved shield recovery system when driving on neon strips. And "WEAPONS SCOOP" is the exact same thing, only for weapons. I think the weapons, save a couple, are pretty pointless when you get to the higher levels and start reaching extreme speeds. Your going so fast that you hardly have time to steer, let alone try to shoot off some ammo. So dont try to save all your money. Get a few good weapons in the beginning, and stick to those.
The controls are pretty tight. There's not much of realistic feel to it though. Your not going to wipe out if you hit a wall or take a corner too fast. But the weapons are a major part of this game. It would be totally different without them. I beat the game and unlocked the Starcom team that claims, "we are looking for experienced drivers seeking new adventures. You won't see the world the same." Thats a load of B.S. just to let you know. There's not really an ending to the game either. All is does is say that you've won the season, and takes you back to the career mode main menu. +7
GRAPHICS
I've never seen better graphics, let alone from a racing game. There's a track named Atradaitoshi thats at night and raining, and it's incredible. The rain actually hits the tv and runs off like theres a camera following the rider. The very next track named Siris Canyon is what finally blew my load on this game. Theres a loop so huge, you don't even know your on one, untill all of a sudden canyons and clouds come down on the screen to make you realize your upside down. The backgrounds on the tracks are great and fully animated. They're all extremely futuristic and like rollar coasters. You have to watch the post race 'replay' to get a feeling of how huge and insane these tracks really are. +9
AUDIO
The audio is tight and in Dolby. This is definetly one game that you and the boys wanna get pi$$ drunk to and crank up the stereo. The bikes sound great along with the weapons. And did I mention the music???? The England based, 'Ministry of Sound', lays down the tracks. For those of you that don't know, they're the 'Death Row' or 'No Limit' of Electronica labels. Which also means OVERRATED. Since the English scene hasn't given us much of anything worth a crap since the Prodigy (in what? ohhhhh...97???), don't expect much. The only names I've heard of on this game are System F (Ferry Corsten) and Kamaya Painters (DJ Tiesto), with the ONLY Trance track in the game. Everything else is Breakbeat, Big Beat, or stuff that has a dark deep Detroit feel to it. It would have been better, had they put in some harder stuff. But don't think that means the rest of them suck. The soundtrack is still banging, and at least better than those skating and bmx games with the same sorry played out alternative and hip hop tracks. How the hell can you mix those two in the first place? Hopefully, future developers will get hip to this Techno uprising thats going on. +7
