Most digital cameras are only part-timers. Why? As the day wears on, their batteries start to run dangerously low, and their low-light performance is beset by image quality problems. The F10 Zoom, with its new Real Photo Processor, is the exception. With a 500-shot battery life and an incredible sensitivity range that stretches from ISO 80 to 1600, the FinePix F10 Zoom is a camera to be used at any time of the day or night. Minimize

Great! Point and Shoot

Author's Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Easy to use. No shutter lag. Great pictures for a P&S. Good battery life.

Cons: Battery recharge and picture download requires too many wires.

The Bottom Line:
Buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Bought the F10 to replace a broken C-730 Olympus, 3.2 Megapixel with 10x zoom (a fall broke the lens). Took it on a vacation and was very pleased with the pics. The F10 is 10x the camera than the C-730 ever was. Most notable is the virtual elimination of shutter lag and the ability to take a decent pic in almost any condition (lighting or motion). I consider myself a novice-intermediate photographer.

Took 2848x2136 pictures, in auto mode, at a major league baseball night game, from the upper deck. The ball is blurred (ball is a streak approx 3x longer than the diameter), as you'd expect since it was going 90 mph but the players are quite vivid when I view at full scale on my PC. In all other conditions, that are reasonable for a P&S, the camera can stop the action, often without requiring a flash. I believe that this performance is the result of the Super-CCD that has 2x the surface area of the CCD that is typically used in other P&S cameras.

The lack of view finder doesn't bother me. It makes it easier for my 5 year old to compose a reasonable shot.

My wife bought a Digital Rebel XT at the same time I got the F10. The XT obviously takes better pictures but I expect that the F10 will get much more use due to the convenience it offers.

This is a great camera in a small convenient package. If you’re thinking of spending ~$250, pay the extra to get the F10. If you’re not going to buy a Digital SLR with > 6 mega, buy the F10. You won’t be disappointed.

To eliminate the CONS: Buy the optional battery charger and USB Card reader.
