Full Review
I have just had the opportunity to trial the S9500 for a few days. I am a Police photographer, with a force that is just about to make the switch to digital.
We are obviously considering our options in terms of SLR's as we have a large quantity of Nikon Lenses which we currently use.
The S9500 was sent to us and we decided to trial it. First of all i must say that I am a fan of Fuji cameras personally owning the S20 Pro. I was expecting the S9500 to be merely a slightly updated version of my own camera. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the features included in this model, most noticeably by the inclusion of a focusing light. The focusing light projects a green square pattern allowing the cameras auto focus to accurately focus on even flat featureless subjects in the dark.
The low light capability of the camera is also impressive, making even the darkest corner of a room appear light.
The camera takes both XD and compact flash media.
The manual zoom is also excellent, giving it the feel of a true SLR. The Lens is also excellent giving a range between 28 - 300 equivalent. In our line of work, often working in dirty conditions, the changing of lenses does risk causing damage to the CCD of cameras. This fixed lens would probably advantageous for us.
Battery life seemed to be good. There really was no noticeable shutter lag, which i have always suffered with similar cameras.
The range of manual controls really allows the camera to be used just like an SLR.
Print quality was excellent on the test photos taken which i had printed up to A4, at 5 mega pixels.
Whether we go for this camera or a much more expensive SLR will not ultimately be down to me, but I will definately be getting one for my own use !
