Even though many videogame fans were not even born when the series was first released, Konami has repackaged the original arcade versions of GRADIUS 3 & 4 and ported them to the PlayStation 2. The games are classic shooters, requiring a quick mind and even quicker trigger fingers. The graphics are a throwback to older times and less powerful machines, but shooters are meant for their blazing fast gameplay, which GRADIUS 3 & 4 delivers in spades. The first game in the re-release sports 2D sprites--the second contains some colorful 3D polygons that help spice up the environments. The controls are easy to learn and responsive; requirements in any game that demands so much raw speed, especially a shooter of this caliber. Though identical to their arcade releases and highly challenging, GRADIUS 3 & 4 delivers a play experience unmatched by most shooters, and is a welcome addition to the PlayStation 2's roster. Some of the coolest you never heard of!

Pros: Lots of guns, lots of options, 2 excellent shooters!

Cons: Graphics are very outdated. Almost too hard.

An old classic returns...

Author's Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: fun retro-arcade style play the way it should be

Cons: extremely difficult, poor graphics for PS2 technology

Bottom Line:
Excellent return to the classics. Enjoyable, yet very challenging. Most people will give up with frustration so you have to like a challenge. Not "eye-candy" for graphics lovers. Read More

Gradius III & IV: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Graphics

Author's Rating: 3/5 stars

Pros: Intro Video, Good to finally see this game genre on a console, Lotsa Upgrades, 2-in-1

Cons: Very misleading advertising, no upgrade in graphics, VERY difficult

Bottom Line:
With no upgrade in graphics, and the extreme difficulty of this game, it has little going for it. It does make up for this in game modes and addiction level. Read More
