Full Review
I've worked on Dell laptops mostly, but none of them have impressed me as much as this one. I love the all in one design. I hate drive swapping in one bay and carrying that stupid floppy drive around when it could just as well been integrated. Overall, it's hard to find the combination of fast cpu (pII 366) ram (64mb) hd space (6gb) and screen size (13.2) in this price category unless you go to a shady manufacturer. Also all of its parts work extremely well. The built in 56k v.90 modem works as well as my desktop's U.S. Robotics modem; rock solid, fast (consistently connects at 52k) with no dropped connections. The network card is perfect and the keyboard is the best I've worked on. (I love this keyboard!!!) Its also stable as hell and the screen is bright with great contrast. My only gripe is the video out. On my 17-inch monitor, some colors have a tendency to quiver a little. It's a little annoying but doesn't detract you from getting your work done.
It's not exactly a multimedia powerhouse. It doesn't have Agp or 3d acceleration, but neither does anything else in this price point. (There is a DVD version BTW)
It's hard to go wrong with this notebook. Its cheap, it works and it has all the features needed to function well in a typical business environment. As testament to its functionality, I've begun the process of consolidating all of my files and programs on the Omnibook and getting rid of my two desktops at work. (I'm keeping my over clocked celeron box at home for games!!!)
Oh did I mention those cool little blue buttons on the front?
