Outstanding Home Theater Projector!

Author's Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Amazing HDTV & DVD. Contrast No screendoor effect Picture tweaking options

Cons: 2000 hr Lamp life. Can get hot at exhaust vent Some pixilization on interlaced TV

The Bottom Line:
Perfect for a home theater projector. With this unit, why would you ever go out to the movies again?

Author's Review
I have owned 4 Projectors for home theater. ranging in price from $1200 to $400O and of both the LCD and DLP type. By far, this unit is my favorite.

I loved the picture quality of a $1800 HP DLP projector with its very deep blacks, but the rainbow effects were just to distracting. No one in the family could put up with it, so I had to returned it. Pretty much the same deal, although not as bad, with an Infocus DLP projector.
The other LCD projector that I own, a Panasonic PTLC75U has great image quality, but produced blacks poorly (more of a grey).

The Hitachi PJTX100is a good compromise. It's blacks are not quite as good as a DLP projector can do, but are quite acceptable for a LCD projector. Without a rainbow effect, this unit seems to be an ideal choice for home theater. The advanced IRIS in this unit is the key to the excellent blacks allowing you to boost the contrast up to 3000:1.
Another plus is that this thing is VERY quite...less than 25 db. Compared to the other 4 projectors, this thing is barely audible.

The only negatives with this unit, and they are minor, is that the bulb life is 2000 hours (many other units have a lamp life of 3000 to 4000 hours) and it vents a good deal of hot air when running (only an issue if you are sitting beside the vent).

Best of all, although this unit has a list price of $3999, you can find it for $2000 if you look around. At that price, this projector is a downright steal!
