Full Review
I liked this laptops performance when I ran it under Windows 98 using the standard method of connection, dial-up networking. It runs great under those conditions. Runs fast, reliably and without many problems. The pointing stick can be annoying after using it a while, but you always have the option of hooking up a regular mouse on the PS2 port. The keyboard is great as well.
Now lets get to the Home Alone bit. This laptop, in my opinion, is for home use. When I upgraded to Windows 2000, and upgraded ram to 128MB, to use it at my office, I had all sorts of problems. First of all, after installing the ethernet card, I couldn't access the network. Some sort of hardware problem. Dial-up still worked. When I finally got the ethernet card to work, dial-up ceased to work. It was one or the other and nothing in between.
Some will say, well that's just your problem. Perhaps, but tech support wasn't that helpful. After reformatting my laptop as tech support told me to, the problem wasn't solved. Its not Windows 2000, because my other coworkers had it work with their non-IBM laptops.
If you're looking for the bottom line, here it is:
The laptop is good for personal use, not office use.
