Full Review

I am taking computer science in college. As part of our program, we are afforded the use of a laptop computer during the scholastic year to use 24 hours a day, 7 day a week. The individuals in my program were given the A22e.

The A22e is not as slim as other notebooks I have seen, but is relatively lightweight and comfortable to use. The keyboard is similar to most laptop computers. The keys are fairly broad, which reduces errors. Normally, I attach a mouse to laptop computers but the IBM uses a single button to control the cursor (like a mini-joystick). I found the performance of this device more than acceptable (I hate pressure pads and trackballs).

This laptop is loaded with features. I has an overhead light to illuminate the keyboard in the dark, sound controls wired into the keyboard, a third mouse button which, when used by the "mouse" will act as a scroll wheel. The function key gives quick access to the standby, sleep, and hibernate functions.

The display is clear and bright, one of the best I've seen. Truth be told, I prefer flat screens to CRTs. This is mainly due to the artificial "whitening" that most CRTs are tuned to when the PC ships.

My laptop came with Windows 2000 Professional and various other pieces of proprietary software. So far, I have not experienced any degree of mechanical failure with the A22e nor have I had any difficulty installing new software.

This laptop comes with all of the ports that any user might need including USB, LPT, serial, and T b10/100 network card. I've had no trouble flipping back and forth between the wired network and school and my wireless network at home (both use the USB port).

Overall, this is a great laptop computer with plenty of functionality. I understand that the price is high so I am basing my price quote on some retail centres in the area. I will seriously be considering an IBM when I graduate.
