Full Review
Well, I just got this computer, and I wouldn't regret it for a moment. I just traded my very outdated ThinkPad 560 in for this gem of a T21 and I love everything about it. I know, I know, people say it gets hot. Well, when you concider that the computer is thought of as a light-weight desktop replacement, you learn to deal with the heat.
My system is a PIII 800, 512 RAM, 14.1" XGA screen with a 20GB HD and DVD running WIN XP Pro. The system really breezes along on even more system intensive apps like the Sims 2 or flash loaded sites. When you take into account that you can get these units with at least 256 of RAM for around 450 with shipping on eBay, you are getting something of a miracle buy.
With Windows XP on board, this system flys through everyday tasks as well as my older backup P4 desktop. I can cruise the web, write emails and papers all while having my MP3 player open and never have to really worry about the system running out of resources. As for DVD's and other apps, the computer is more than apt to handle it.
The battery on this machine is good so long as you don't mind looking for a plug now and then for longer classes. Speaking of classes, this computer has stood up to so much crap just in the few days that i've had it. I put ForTran, Office XP and several other programs on, and the thing just keeps chugging along. The weight on this machine is around 5 pounds, so you can lug it hither and yon without getting a sore shoulder.
So, when it comes down to it, for around 450, you can get an excellent, light weight power-house of a machine, protected with reenforced plating under the plastic. If you're like me, that comes in handy, and so does the price.
Update - 2/5/05
I've been using this computer for about three months now, and I have still to find anything majorly bothersome. It's much quieter than even my grandparents top of the line Dell Latitude laptop they just purchased. I must note that if you have the means, I HIGHLY recommend that you purchase and install Windows XP Professional, because it really makes this system fly.
