Classics are works that clash with the present. They are never modified instead they are re-interpreted on the basis of a changed world: With the LEICA M7, a classic celebrates a new premiere. Convenience and fast operation of the camera have been enhanced even further with automatic shutter speed control and detail improvements. The Leica cloth focal plane shutter with its vibration-free and quiet action is a must for a genuine Leica M camera is now controlled electronically. Form, size and the proven operating concept were retained without changes. Virtually all system components of the preceding models remain compatible. Photography with the new LEICA M7 is a surprisingly new and yet unchanged experience. Minimize

A modern day classic

Author's Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: A true modern classic. Pure, uncluttered, a beautiful piece of machinery.

Cons: Not good for macro or telephoto, but great for everything else.

The Bottom Line:
The M7 adds great functionality without taking anything away from pure artistry.

Author's Review
-the very first portable 35mm camera ever was a Leica rangefinder-the Leica rangefinder tradition goes way back to the beginnings of photography.
-the M7 is quiet and unobtrusive-a light package compared to an SLR system.
-Leica lenses are unparalleled in quality, retention of value and durability. Many have noted that the 'Leica look' is stunning and hard to describe in words. The bokeh of the Leica lenses is legendary.
-Using this camera feels neat, it's a quality piece of German device and design.
-Some of the worlds best photographers used/use a Leica. One example is National Geographic photographer David Allen Harvey. Also Henri Cartier-Bresson.
-Much of the camera handling is manual, which brings you back to the roots of photography-it's pure and true and un-cluttered, with no loud autofocus and electronic gizmos. And the Automatic Exposure makes picture taking much faster. Simply adjust the f-stop and the shutter speed adjust automatically. That's one less thing to have to adjust, saving you time and making your picture taking much easier, without getting in the way of the artistry.
-Great for street photography, portraits, photojournalism, travel. Not good for macro or when you need long telephoto.

In the end, it remains about you and your photographs. The Leica does very little to get in the way of your artistry and spontaneity. It's the perfect all around camera!
