Madden 2002 is another chapter in a long line of Madden football video games. Each time a new Madden football game is made there are significant improvements, which i will tell you about in this review. I will also be making a comparison between this game and the previous version, Madden 2001. The game is named Madden because of a famous sports broadcaster, John Madden, as well as coach. He is one of the voices in the game also.
First of all a minor improvment is the graphics. There is not that much of an improvement, but there is some. For example, the players actually look like they are touching the ball and other players. In Madden 2001, there was some kind of force field between an object and its surrounding enviroment.
Next is sound which goes along with the graphics, there is almost no improvements in the sound department. I am actually disappointed in the sound, i was expecting to hear better crowd noises. For example, the crowd level stays the same throughout the game. I was hoping that it would change when a team would score, or the ref makes a bad call.
One of the greatest improvements is the kicking controls on field goals. When kicking a field goal in Madden 2001, you did not really have control over where you kicked the ball. In Madden 2002, there is an arrow that you can aim through the up-rights and use the kicking meter to accurately kick the ball through the poles. While I am talking about new improvements in controls, When the quaterback drops back for a pass, the recievers are not labeled. Therefore, when you pressed one of the four reciever buttons, you didnt know who to pass to. Now in Madden 2002, the recievers are clearly labeled A,S,D,F. So there is no confusion.
Besides the sound there is another flaw too. The scores in the game go out of control. I have had scores like 55-61. I suggest to EA(creators of game) that they make it harder ro score, but then again they make it harder for the AI to score on you.
Despite the flaws, this is a good game and i recommend it to any football loving guy. It is currently released on everything from Gameboy Advance to PC, ranging from 39.99 to 49.99. This game earns four stars.
