Mario Party 5 is for the GameCube. If you are like me and my Family who love the Mario Party Games you will like this one also. Mario Party five is a little different from the other 4 one is the capsules and Donkey Kong is longer a character you can pick from, now he is a space on the game board. I was a little disappointed about that since I always picked him. There a 9 characters you can pick from, Three are new. The new characters are BOO, KOOPA KID, & TOAD, plus they have the other favorites Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Peach, Yoshi & Daisy.
There are 6 game modes PARTY MODE, STORY MODE, MINI GAME MODE, SUPER DUEL MODE, BONUS MODE and OPTIONS MODE The party mode is the main game mode, there are 2 ways to play in this mode a battle mode which is a 4 player game. One player against 3 computers, 2 people against 2 computers, 3 players against 1 computer or 4 people. The other option is to play partners 2 against 2. The whole object in this game is to have the most stars at the end of the game. You have 6 different game boards to pick from Toy Dream, Rainbow Dream, Pirate Dream, Undersea Dream, Future Dream, and Sweat Dream
You can set the number of turns you would like from 10 to 50 turns that are in multiples of 5. You can also set up a handicap by given one or all players from 1 to 9 stars before the start of the game. I never knew you could do that until I notices when I went to play with my son, he set the game up when I was in the other room and gave himself 9 stars and everyone else 0.
During the party mode there are 6 different spaces you can land on, a blue space which will give you 3 coins, a red space takes away 3 coins, a green question mark space which will have a different event, a DK space which has 3 options DK roulette where if you roll a higher number then donkey Kong he will give you a star. DK Mini Game, there are three different games all which where you collect bananas and receive 1,2 or 3 times bananas you got and trade them for coins, and DK bonus, where you hit the dice block and get as many coins as the number you rolled. And there is a Bowser Space, He does three different things, a Bowser revolution which he makes everyone's coins even, a Bowser shuffle where everyone switches spaces and a Bowser Mini Game. When someone lands on the star space you can pay 20 coins to buy the star. Once someone buys the star the star space will move to another location.
After everyone is done with there turn you will play a Mini game. They have added 70 new games in Mario Party 5. It can be a 4 player game a 1 Vs 3 player game or a 2 Vs 2 player game. The winner of each game with receive coins. Some of the games are Chimp Chase, Coney Island, Leaf Leap, Will Flower, Big Top Drop, Curvy Curbs, Banking Coins, Lucky Lineup, Banana Punch, Blown away and much much more.
One thing that is different from the other Mario Party games is you don't buy items. They have a gum ball looking machine that you can receive a capsule from. You can have up to 3 capsules at a time. You have 2 options with the capsules you can use it on yourself, but will have to pay however many coins it asks for, or you can put it on the board up to 10 spaces where you are. Once someone lands on a capsule space that person uses that capsules whether its a good thing to them or a bad thing. There are 28 different capsules from a super mushroom, mushroom, poison mushroom, warp pipe, clepto (who changes places with another player) Bubble (Moves you 10 spaces but burns all your remaining capsules) Wiggler (takes you to the star), Hammer Bro. & Spiny (takes 10 coins from you) Coin Block (gives you 10 Coins) Tweester (moves the star), Duel (1 Vs 1 battle game for coins or a star) Chain Chomp (Takes coins or a star from another player). These are just some of the capsules.
The last five turns of the game Bowser will appear and take the person in last place to spin the roulette wheel and make a new rule. either the blue and red spaces will give or take away 3 times the number of coins, a capsule event will be on every space (I hate this one), or all red spaces will have Bowser on them (another one that stinks) and the last one there could be five additional star spaces are added.. After the last turn and if your bonuses are turned on stars are awarded to the winner of each bonus category.
Mini Game star goes to the person who got the most coins in the mini games, a coin star to the person who got the most coins through out the game, and a Happening star goes to the person who landed on the most question mark spaces.
Story Mode you play against 3 koopa kids, Mini game mode has 6 different ways to play. A free play where you play any game that is available. A Mini Game Battle where you compete in a tournament setting playing 4 player games 1 Vs 3 player games and 2 Vs 2 player games. You have to win a mini game to proceed to the next match. Mini Game Circuit, you play mini games and the winner hits the dice block what ever you get you move that many spaces and the first person to the finish line wins. Mine Game Decathlon, you have to play 10 certain games listed and points are awarded and at the end the person with the most points wins. Mine Game Wars, there are 19 hexagonal tiles. You have to win a mini game to capture a tile. The person with the most tiles at the end wins.
Super Duel Mode is for one or more players. in this mode you have to buy parts first then you take those parts in the garage and create your own battle machine. When your machine is ready you battle other machines. Bonus mode you move a long a game board that is lined with special cards looking for the coveted star cards. The player with the most stars at the end wins. The option mode is where you can change the music, and view the records no biggie.
The Graphics on this game are awesome. All the game boards are full of color. The characters are pretty much the same and they say the same stuff they said in the other games. They are not updated that much. One of my favorite game boards is the Sweet Dream which is full of all sweat and sugary things that will make you hungry at the end. If you ever played Mario 1, 2, or 3. You can see how much of an improvement they made with the graphics. The music to the game is kind of boring. To tell you the truth I don't think I ever really paid attention to it. It nothing to remember.
I have all the Mario Party games and this one is my favorite. I think with every game they make it gets better and better. It's fun because you can play with yourself or play with up to 4 people. I like to play with my husband and son. We like to have compitions. It's a great family game.
