kjpus's Review: Sony CDX-757MX 10-Disc CD Changer provided by Epinions.com
5/5 stars Nice CD/MP3 changer
10-Jun-2003
Pros: Easy installation; 10 CDs of MP3 playback - days of music; no skipping.
Cons: Read all the file info at once after disk change - takes too long (30-60sec)
The Bottom Line: A good changer with minor issues. LOVE it for MP3 playback.

Alright. I have to admit that this is the first CD changer I own. I got it with a Sony XR-CA650X Cassette Receiver. I'll try to comment on this combo instead of just the changer.

The installation is easy enough - with the right wiring harness, that is. I put it on my 2000 Accord sedan. The system sounds pretty good, with enough detail both in the high and low frequency range. And the receiver puts up more power than the stock radio. The changer was installed in the trunk, with just Velcro tapes. After driving 200 miles, some on slightly bumpy roads, I have yet to notice a single skip. The changer plays MP3 quite well. I've tried files up to 320kbps CBR and 256kbps VBR, on both CD-R and CD-RW. Below 128kbps (included), you'll notice the lost of details. The ID3 (v1) tag is displayed on the faceplate. The MBP (My Best Position) function works pretty well. It shifts the center of the sound field to either the driver or passenger side.

A few issues that I think need improvements are: 1) Every time the disc is changed, the receiver/changer try to load the file info in one shot. For CD it is not a problem. But if you have a full CD of MP3, this would take 30-60seconds, which is quite annoying. When you put the faceplate back on, it happens again. 2) Two purple buttons (MBP and EQ7) on the receiver is kind of distracting at night. 3) It might be a feature but it is surely one I don't like. You can set the ID3 tag to auto scroll. But it only does it for one loop. After that, you'll have to press the scroll key to see the tag scrolling.
