at 6 megapixels, this camera in my eyes is the best all around point and shoot camera I ever had. The pictures are not the best ( I had a few fujis and canon point and shoots take a tad better photo), and its not the fastest, but when you add everything up it is the best and it is the best by a decent distance.
First thing is buy always with a return policy. I had people swear by this camera so I tried an open box out. It was good but it was not that good. Then I got another and bango It was great. I think at the tele end outside its the best telephoto pictures I ever got. These days many cameras astound with their ability to fine focus from hundreds of feet away. The h2 just seems to do it better and faster and does it very easy. I can shooot from inside my house as cars go bye at slow speed and get great focused shots of people inside the car and see fine details of their face while the car was moving and I can do that shot after shot , no lie.
What else is good? The white balance is beautiful . The speed of shots indoor and outdoor is pretty good. I heard a review say it was slow? What point and shoot at this range is faster? Seriously ! what is reviewer expecting , a dslr? You can buy a dslr and you can miss allot of shots while you play around with dial settings. Sure the photo might be better but there is a place and time for each type of camera and without spending a fortune in lenses, this h2 can almost get spy like precision in its focussed shots. Unlike other point and shoots at 12x I tried, this gets the whole scene in focus. I seriously don't know how Sony did this. The great thing is even in shorter wider angles the camera is capable of great shots. The controls are all very receptive to different setting changes.
I never used the scene settings or the movie settings. The P settings remind me of the settings of a dslr. It has a dial in which you can change aperature and shutter speed. It also has an exposure compensation setting that is very useful and custom white balance.
Now the negatives: noise and slightly duller shots then newer cameras. No matter how good a camera was often newer technology makes older cameras obsolete. I probably would buy newer if I had to choose today
