Square-Enix’s DRAGON QUEST series (known as DRAGON WARRIOR in the US) has been one of the largest RPG series of all time, and now, with DRAGON QUEST VIII: JOURNEY OF THE CURSED KING for the PS2, the series goes fully 3-dimensional. The game’s storyline revolves around a nameless palace guard who is the only survivor of an attack on the castle by the evil mage Dhoulmagus. The mage turned the king into a frog and the princess into a horse. Now, it’s up to the guard, his friend Yangus, the two royals-turned-animals, and several other companions to stop Dhoulmagus and restore the kingdom. Players will eventually have a group of four characters to control in battle. The fights are turn-based and occur randomly, just like in previous DRAGON QUEST games. In addition to the standard attacks and magic spells, characters also have abilities they can use. These abilities are gained by purchasing them with skill points.
