Pros: Light weight, built-in WiFi, bright screen, good ergonomics
Cons: Thick, awkward proportions for most bags, large for a 12" screen, pokey integrated graphics
Bottom Line: A high-end no-compromise laptop in 2002 makes for a standout used bargain in 2006.

Pros: Lightweight, but very powerful
Cons: Screen may be small for you, mediocre graphics controller
Bottom Line: The Portege 4000 is a compromise between power and weight. If you aren't sure, compare it to the more powerful Tecra 9000 or the super-lightweight Portege 2000.
